Ukrainian film Bucha tops Netflix charts in Ukraine

At the beginning of 2025, the war drama became the most popular film on the Netflix streaming platform among Ukrainian viewers. This was announced on social media by Netflix. This is a record for Ukrainian films, especially during the holidays when people traditionally choose entertainment content.
"Bucha" is based on real events experienced by thousands of Ukrainians during the Russian occupation of Kyiv region in February-March 2022. The film's foundation is the story of a volunteer from Kazakhstan, who, at the start of the full-scale invasion, evacuated civilians from the Russian-occupied city.
The film was released in Ukrainian cinemas on November 7, 2024. In just a few months, the film won the hearts of many Ukrainians and viewers abroad. It was highly appreciated on the international stage: the film took 2nd place in the audience sympathy category at the prestigious 2024 Warsaw Film Festival.
