On November 7, 2024, the Ukrainian full-length dramatic feature film "Bucha," created with the support of the Military Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR MoD), was released in theaters in Ukraine.

The film, focusing on human bravery, solidarity, and readiness for self-sacrifice at a critical moment, centers on real events that took place in the city of Bucha and other settlements in the Kyiv region. It tells the story of a citizen of Kazakhstan who was granted asylum in Ukraine in 2019 and managed to save over 200 Ukrainians from occupied territories.

The lead roles in the film were played by the renowned Polish theater and film actor Cezary Łukaszewicz and the star of Ukrainian cinema, Vyacheslav Dovzhenko. The film was directed by Stanislav Tiunov, with the screenplay and production by Oleksandr Shchur.

The film’s creation and shooting were assisted by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, HUR MoD Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, Kyiv City Council, and the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.

“The appearance of the Ukrainian film ‘Bucha’ on the big screen is very important because it is about an act, a choice, true heroism. The story is based on real events, and it’s a good thing to preserve it in cinema, tell it to the world, and convey the atmosphere of the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The tension and drama of this story will certainly not leave anyone indifferent,” said Andriy Yusov, a representative of the HUR MoD Ukraine.
