The Ukrainian film "Bucha" was screened in the European Parliament
On December 10, 2024, a special screening of the Ukrainian feature film “Bucha” took place in the European Parliament in Brussels. The event organizers reported this.

The fight against Russian propaganda is an extremely important task for all of us today. The film ‘Bucha’ fulfills this through a truthful depiction of the events that took place in Ukraine in the spring of 2022. We are deeply moved by what we saw. The whole world needs to know about it,” said Pina Picherno, Vice-President of the European Parliament, in her speech.

Member of the European Parliament and former President of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania, Dainius Žalimass, added that he personally knows the film’s protagonist, Konstantinas Gudauskas, since he sent a car to the front with him.

“We are grateful to all the guests for their presence and to the European Parliament for helping support civil society. It is important to note that this film was created without the involvement of state funds, and therefore, it is truly a people’s film,” added Marta Barandi, representative of the Ukrainian ombudsman in the EU and Belgium, founder, and president of Promote Ukraine.

Oleksandr Shchur, the producer and screenwriter of the film, emphasized that truth is never ambiguous and is key in the fight against disinformation. The film tells the true story of volunteer Konstantinas Gudauskas — a citizen of Kazakhstan of Lithuanian descent who lives in Ukraine and, risking his life, evacuated over 200 people from the occupied territories.

Among the attendees were:
  • Georges Delmagne, Vice-Mayor of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre,
  • Marc Demesmaker, Vice-Mayor of Halle,
  • Yahwei Chen and Lizu Lin, representatives of the Taiwan Mission in Belgium and the EU,
  • Marie-Françoise Bott, Head of Economic and International Networks, Public Relations, Sponsorships, and Philanthropy at the Brussels City Hall,
  • Solomiya Hera and Joanna Segonds, representatives of the Brussels City Hall.
The film team was invited by the Brussels City Hall to hold a special screening at the Royal Gallery of the city.
